While Southern California is still experiencing days in the upper 80s, I know that there are plenty of places where the cold fingers of Autumn are starting to sink in.
Today, I’m going to share with you an effective circulation blend that will help support healthy blood flow, lymphatic drainage, and even reduce stress!
A Circulation Blend for The Cold Half of The Year
September is when I really start to get excited about cooler weather even though I myself, run cold. The thought of endless mugs of hot tea, heavy blankets, fluffy sweaters, and slippers is much more preferable to sweating buckets in the SoCal heat.
The only downside? My circulation proficiency plummets as soon as the temperature drops.
That’s where a good circulation blend comes in handy because it stimulates stagnant blood flow, strengthens the veins and capillaries, and helps keep your fingers and toes from turning unhealthy shades of blue.
So, without further ado, here’s what you’ll need to make it:
• 4 oz of unscented lotion or 4 oz of carrier oil like sweet almond, coconut, grapeseed, etc.
• a 4oz container for the lotion or a 4oz dropper bottle for the body oil
• 12 drops goldenrod essential oil (can sub with more cypress if you don’t have it)
• 10 drops cypress essential oil
• 10 drops marjoram essential oil
• 8 drops rosemary essential oil
• 4 drops helichrysum essential oil
• 4 drops ylang ylang essential oil
This will make a 2% dilution, so feel free to adjust as needed. To make a 1% dilution, simply divide the drops need for each essential oil in half.
Loving Preparation – Circulation Blend
• Add the essential oils to the 4oz of unscented lotion or carrier oil and stir to mix.
To Use
Apply to trouble areas as needed throughout the day.
I tend to make this into the lotion version because I like a less oily feel on the skin. I apply it on my legs and toes as I would regular body lotion 1-2x daily, especially if I’m working at my desk all day.
If you make the carrier oil version, you can simply use it as you would a body oil. You can put aside some of the infused oil and make a roll-on as well for travel which is great on long flights!
Why These Essential Oils Work
The oils in this blend are known for their stimulating effects on the circulatory system. They help to dilate the blood vessels and warm the skin on contact which helps increase blood flow and keep the extremities looking pink and healthy.
Cypress
Cypress is one of the most effective essential oils when it comes to improving and supporting circulation and lymphatic drainage. In fact, it can even help alleviate symptoms of edema, water retention, cellulite, and varicose veins because it strengthens and tones both veins and capillaries while encouraging healthy blood flow.
Many of these conditions result from stagnancy and cypress helps eliminate it.
Goldenrod
Goldenrod essential oil can be pretty hard to find, but if you can get your hands on it, it’s one of the best essential oils for draining the body of excess fluid, mucus, and other forms of congestion in the body.
It is known to promote urination, reduce inflammation, and support kidney health.
Helichrysum
Helichrysum helps encourage circulation and regenerates healthy nerve and tissue function while also reducing inflammation. It is also known to be an anticoagulant and can even help clean plaque and other buildup in the veins and arteries which can aid cholesterol regulation.
Emotionally, helichrysum helps one release feelings of anger.
Marjoram
Marjoram essential oil is good for healing bruises, reducing stagnancy, and regenerating smooth muscle tissue. It’s also pain-relieving which makes it well suited for treating aches, pains, and tension in the muscles.
Marjoram is also emotionally supportive and is known to alleviate nervous tension and feelings of stress.
Rosemary
Rosemary essential oil is a warming and stimulating oil that helps increase mental focus, reduce stress, and even strengthen the skin. Its stimulating effects help improve circulation and drain stagnancy.
Ylang Ylang
Ylang ylang, believe it or not, is one of the best essential oils to use for heart health and function, especially regarding tachycardia (rapid heartbeat). It can even help lower high blood pressure, reduce anxiety, and help alleviate mental fatigue and depression.
